The new squadron will replace aging UH-1N Twin Hueys, with 26 HH-60Ws set to arrive by 2030. Lawmakers have demanded a report by December 1, 2026, assessing the operational and cost implications of using HH-60Ws instead of MH-139 Grey Wolves for these roles. The Air Force argues the Jolly Green IIs provide a more cost-effective solution, despite reducing the total fleet from 113 to 91 helicopters.
