The US expects European NATO allies and Canada to increase their contribution of manned and unmanned aircraft and ships to the alliance's defense plans. This comes as the US reduces its own contribution to the NATO Force Model, a pool of forces that can be activated during a crisis.
US Air Force General Alexus Grynkewich stated that allies can step up in areas such as manned and unmanned aircraft and naval vessels. The US plans to cut its contribution of fighter jets, destroyers, and submarines, and will also reduce its provision of armed drones.

NATO expects no gaps in defense to emerge, as allies already have or will soon have sufficient capabilities. The alliance's military headquarters spokesperson, US Army Col. Martin O'Donnell, stated that nations just need to assign their existing capabilities to NATO.
