The US has launched a series of strikes against Iran in retaliation for multiple attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz over the last 24 hours. The strikes, announced by US Central Command, targeted Iranian air defense systems, command and control networks, and small boats in and near the strait.
The attacks on shipping, which involved three tanker ships, were seen as a clear violation of the ceasefire and undermined freedom of navigation. The US strikes were described as four or five times bigger in scope and power than previous strikes 10 days ago.

The situation in the region remains tense, with Iran controlling the northern route of the Strait of Hormuz and the US and Oman controlling the southern route. The future of Iran's nuclear ambitions and its stockpile of enriched uranium are also key issues in the region.
