The US has taken down at least four Iranian drones that were launched towards the Strait of Hormuz, according to a US official. This incident is the latest flare-up between Iran and the US since a ceasefire was put in place nearly two months ago.
The drones were shot down by US forces, who also struck Iranian coastal surveillance radar sites in response to the threat posed by the drones. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for international oil trade, and any disruption to shipping in the area could have significant consequences.
The incident comes amid reports of explosions on Iran's Kharg Island, which is the country's main oil export facility. The US has also confirmed that it intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones launched towards the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf neighbors.
