The US military has successfully used an autonomous Corsair maritime drone to rescue two pilots who crashed in their Army AH-64 Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz.
The drone, built by Saronic, located and retrieved the pilots, then transported them to a safe location where they were hoisted to a helicopter for further transport.
This marks the first publicized use of an unmanned surface vessel to recover aircrew in real-world warfare. The Corsair drone is a 24-foot autonomous surface vessel designed for rugged, long-duration missions, and is equipped with sensors for 360-degree passive sensing capabilities.
