The US Indo-Pacific Command is changing its name back to US Pacific Command, a move that honors the command's historical roots.
The name change, announced Tuesday, reflects the command's deep heritage and enduring regional partnerships, according to a Pentagon release. The command was previously known as US Pacific Command until May 2018, when it was changed to US Indo-Pacific Command to recognize the increasing connectivity of the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
The name change will have no impact on the command's mission or areas of operational responsibility. This move is the latest in a series of rebranding initiatives launched by the Pentagon, including a potential rebrand of the Department of Defense to the Department of War.
