The US Marines in Okinawa have formally received the installation's first Navy-Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System (NMESIS) and Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS).
The NMESIS is a ground-based ship-killing missile system designed for sea denial operations, while the MADIS provides short-range, surface-to-air defense capabilities.
The systems were welcomed by the 12th Marine Littoral Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, as key pieces in threat recalibration efforts in the Indo-Pacific. The Marine Corps has pushed to field the new tech across the region to match the rapid evolution of regional threats.
