US forces have begun delivering aid to Colombia after a massive earthquake hit the country, killing at least 285 people. Air Force cargo planes started flying supplies into Colombia over the weekend, with the first plane arriving in Bogota overnight on August 14.
The planes are transporting supplies from a prepositioned warehouse in Miami, with cargo flights departing from Homestead Air Force Base in southern Florida. The aid includes water, hygiene and shelter supplies, as well as Starlink kits to help restore internet access.
Two urban search and rescue technical support teams have also been deployed to help first responders search for survivors. This is the second time in two months that American forces have flown in emergency aid to a South American country, following a major earthquake in Venezuela in June.
