The US Air Force B-52 Stratofortress bombers departed from RAF Fairford in the UK, ending their deployment in support of the war against Iran. The departure comes amid ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran, with both countries working towards a peace deal despite a shaky ceasefire.
The B-52s were stationed at Fairford since at least March 8, operating at a high tempo and striking targets inside Iran. The US claims to have struck 13,000 targets, although the exact number involving B-52s from Fairford is unclear.

The departure of the B-52s does not preclude the possibility of future strikes, as the US can launch bombers from the US to strike Iran. However, having the B-52s stationed at a base like Fairford closer to the action reduces flight times and increases the generation of sorties.
