The US Army has successfully tested using a heavy-lift drone to deliver an explosive-filled tube through simulated enemy defenses. The trial, conducted by the Oregon Army National Guard, used a commercial drone to maneuver and detonate explosives, clearing a path through a wire obstacle.
The experiment is part of the Army's efforts to reduce the risks associated with breaching, which is one of the most deadly missions for combat engineers. The Army assumes that a deliberate breach could cost half of the forces assigned to it.

The use of drones for breaching is inspired by the war in Ukraine, where drones have changed the nature of war. The Army is looking to expand the use of drones for various tasks, including resupply and rocket launching.
