The UK government has announced a $6.6 billion investment in drone technology as part of its Defense Investment Plan. The plan aims to transform the UK Armed Forces by placing uncrewed platforms at the center of future operations. The Royal Navy will receive four new types of uncrewed vessels, including a missile platform and sense platforms for anti-submarine warfare. The Hybrid Carrier Air Wing will also be developed, featuring crewed combat aircraft complemented by autonomous collaborative platforms.
The investment is part of a larger $395 billion defense spend over four years, with the goal of keeping the country safe and meeting NATO ambitions. The plan is seen as a significant shift towards autonomous systems, with the UK seeking to stay at the forefront of innovation in this area.
