The US has launched a new round of strikes on Iran, targeting sites in southern Iran, including Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. The attacks were carried out at the direction of President Donald Trump, according to the US military.
The US has hit over 300 targets in the last six days, including ships, naval logistics sites, and missile launch facilities. Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes on American bases in the region.
The fighting has escalated despite a 60-day ceasefire agreed upon in a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. The US has stated that it is committed to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open for navigation, while Iran has temporarily closed the strait in response to the attacks.
