Ukraine is set to receive a license to produce Aster 30 anti-missile interceptors, as announced by French President Emmanuel Macron. This move aims to enhance Ukraine's air defense capabilities, particularly against Russian ballistic missiles. The Aster 30 is used in the SAMP/T surface-to-air missile system, which is already in Ukrainian service.
The production of Aster 30 interceptors in Ukraine will provide a vital hedge against shortages and delays in supplies from other countries. The SAMP/T system has proven effective against Russian ballistic threats, with French Air Force Gen. Fabien Mandon claiming it has been more successful than the Patriot system in intercepting such missiles.

The announcement comes amid a growing demand for higher-end surface-to-missile systems and anti-ballistic missile capabilities globally. The creation of an Integrated Anti-Ballistic Missile Coalition, announced at the Coalition of the Willing summit, will pool resources to develop new anti-ballistic missile defense capabilities.
