Romania has received its first new warship in 30 years, a Turkish-built corvette named ROS Contraamiral August Roman. The vessel is expected to boost Black Sea security and strengthen relations with Turkey.
The corvette was originally constructed for the Turkish Naval Forces and was purchased by Romania under a government-to-government contract worth €223 million. The ship is equipped with a range of systems, including a 76mm main gun, navigation and combat management systems, and electronic warfare systems.
The delivery marks a significant milestone in defense cooperation between Turkey and Romania, with plans for further industrial cooperation and investment in Romania's defense sector. Romania also intends to equip the ship with NSM anti-ship missiles and other upgrades to achieve full operational capability.
