Kayla Saska, a former Navy fire controlman, was injured in a shipboard accident in 2019, leading to medical complications and a long hospital stay. Her sister, Patricia Rowledge, an Army veteran, rushed to her side to provide support. Patricia was a fierce advocate for Kayla in the hospital, helping her navigate the medical system and fight for her needs.
The accident occurred when Kayla was moving equipment cases on the ship and was hit by a falling case, causing a brain injury and damaging her left leg. She was sent back to the states for medical care, but her condition worsened due to a rare reaction to an iron infusion.
With Patricia's support, Kayla was able to recover and eventually accept medical retirement. She has since returned to sports competition, representing Team Navy at the Warrior Games and Team U.S. at the Invictus Games.
