The U.S. Navy disclosed a new fiscal‑2026 retention initiative aimed at reserve aviators, offering annual cash incentives of up to $40,000 for selected department‑head billets. The move is intended to keep experienced pilots and flight officers in critical aviation roles.
Eligible positions include helicopter mine‑countermeasures (HM) pilots at $40,000, helicopter sea combat (HSC) pilots at $30,000, helicopter maritime strike (HSM) pilots at $35,000, and helicopter training (HT) pilots at $25,000. Electronic attack squadron (VAQ) pilots and naval flight officers can earn $40,000, while airborne command and control (VAW) officers receive $15,000 to $40,000 depending on role. Fighter squadron composite (VFC) pilots and officers, patrol squadron (VP/VUP) crews, and several fixed‑wing training pilots are slated for bonuses between $30,000 and $40,000.

Contracts must be submitted to the Training and Administration of the Reserve Distribution and Augmentation office by August 26. The Navy says the incentives are a vital part of its total‑force strategy to sustain combat readiness. Officials will monitor enlistment rates and may adjust the program as needed.
