The Navy has relieved Cmdr. Joseph Sammur of his command role as the commander of the USS West Virginia submarine's Blue Crew.
The removal was due to a 'loss of confidence in his ability to command', according to the Navy. Sammur had been in the role since August 14, 2025.
Cmdr. Luke Kelvington has been named the interim Blue Crew commander, and the Navy says Sammur's removal will not impact operations. The USS West Virginia is currently at port for maintenance.
