Finland's ICEYE expects to double its global production of radar satellites to 100 by the end of 2027. The company currently manufactures 50 satellites per year and aims to increase production to two satellites a week.
ICEYE's expansion is driven by growing demand from European militaries seeking to reduce their dependence on the US for satellite intelligence. The company has already delivered radar-satellite systems to several countries, including Poland, Greece, and Portugal, in under 12 months.
The increased production will enable ICEYE to better respond to threats outside of Europe's borders, according to CEO Rafal Modrzewski. He also proposed a system of 1,000 satellites, called Constellation Europe, to combine space-based ground observation, space situational awareness, and in-space defense capabilities.
