France is set to test its AI-powered battlefield command system, Arcadia, during a NATO interoperability exercise this month. The system, developed with local companies, is an alternative to the Maven Smart System developed by Palantir Technologies.
The French Army has already tested Arcadia in exercises and plans to propose it to European partners. The system is designed to comply with NATO's Federated Mission Networking standards and has an open architecture, allowing any manufacturer to plug in and share data.
The move comes as NATO military personnel have started training with Palantir's Maven Smart System, which has raised issues of digital sovereignty. France's army deputy chief of staff, Gen. Patrick Justel, said Arcadia is a more resilient alternative to Maven, with a decentralized architecture and open system.
