The US has launched self-defense strikes against Iran in response to the downing of a US Army Apache helicopter. The helicopter was shot down near the Strait of Hormuz, and its crew was rescued by a drone boat. US President Donald Trump vowed to retaliate, stating that the US 'must, of necessity, respond to this attack'.
The US Central Command announced that its forces began launching self-defense strikes against Iran at 5 p.m. ET, in response to yesterday's downing of the Apache helicopter. The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression.
Iranian state media has reported explosions in several parts of the country, including the Sirik port area and Qeshm Island. The IRGC-connected Tasnim news agency said Tehran will retaliate for the ongoing US strikes.
