A U.S. Army Bradley Fighting Vehicle was used to transport five FireAnt uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) during the Pegasus Charge 3 exercise, marking a step toward integrating swarm robotics into frontline operations.
The FireAnt UGVs, weighing about 27 kg each, can be configured for anti-armor attacks, electronic warfare, surveillance, or reconnaissance. Their modular payloads allow rapid reconfiguration for different missions, and their swarming capability could overwhelm defenses or conduct distributed attacks on armored vehicles.

The test reflects the Army’s Transformation in Contact (TiC) initiative, led by the 1st Cavalry Division, which is evaluating new autonomous systems. While it remains unclear whether the FireAnts can be released remotely from the Bradley, the vehicle’s rear ramp offers an alternative deployment method.

Swarmbotics AI, the FireAnt’s developer, has emphasized the system’s AI-driven autonomy and potential for coordinated swarm behavior. The company’s CEO noted that deploying swarms of small UGVs creates multiple dilemmas for adversaries at a fraction of the cost of larger platforms.
