Boeing has decided not to pursue a bid for the U.S. Navy's Undergraduate Jet Training System competition. The company had previously planned to submit a version of the T-7A Red Hawk.
The Navy's T-45 Goshawk jet trainers will be replaced by the winning design. The service plans to acquire 216 new jet trainers, with the contract award expected in mid-2027.

With Boeing out, the competition is now between the Sierra Nevada Corporation and a team led by Leonardo and Textron, both offering twin-engine designs. The Navy's decision to remove carrier qualifications from the training requirements has been controversial, and the program's cost estimate has increased to $2.7 billion.
