An active-duty Air Force officer who called for President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance to be impeached last month is now facing three charges under the military justice system. Maj. Jason Watson’s protest, captured in a video posted online, showed him holding a sign demanding their impeachment, conviction, and removal while Capitol Police detained him.
Watson’s lawyer confirmed he faces charges under three articles, including Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which prohibits officers from using contemptuous words against senior U.S. officials. Christopher Mutimer, Watson’s counsel, stated his client acted with full awareness of the career and liberty risks involved. The Air Force confirmed the charges and said Watson remains in pre-trial confinement while retaining due process rights.
Military law restricts political speech for service members, especially while in uniform, making this case a rare enforcement of those limits. The outcome may influence how similar protests are treated within the armed forces.
