The A-10 Warthog Weapons School, a center of excellence for the aircraft's missions, is coming to an end after almost five decades. The final Weapons Instructor Course concluded in December 2025.
The school has been the backbone of the A-10's combat capabilities, teaching pilots the fundamentals of close air support, forward air control, and counter-maritime missions. Many graduates have gone on to participate in significant combat operations, including those in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran.
Despite calls to retain the A-10 in service, the aircraft is nearing retirement, with only three squadrons granted a reprieve until 2030. The 66th Weapons Squadron is winding down the Warthog Weapons School, marking the end of an era for the A-10.
