President Trump told NBC’s Meet the Press that the ongoing clash with Iran should not be labeled a full‑scale war, calling it a "military exercise" and stressing that the United States retains the world’s most powerful military. He highlighted a naval blockade that, according to him, is costing Iran $400‑500 million each day and noted that Iran’s navy, air force and anti‑aircraft assets have been largely neutralized.
Trump said roughly 50,000 U.S. troops remain in the region under Operation Epic Fury, but he considers them safe and unnecessary to withdraw while the conflict continues. He referenced the loss of 13 American service members, comparing it to far larger casualties in historic wars, and pointed to a booming stock market and record‑high oil prices as evidence of domestic strength.
The president claimed negotiations with Iranian leaders are "very close," with Tehran agreeing not to develop nuclear weapons. However, he insisted the United States also wants a clause barring Iran from purchasing or acquiring such weapons. Trump warned that if talks falter, the U.S. will be ready to act militarily.
