President Donald Trump has approved a major disaster declaration for Texas, allowing the state to receive federal disaster assistance.
The declaration comes after heavy rains and flooding hit 28 counties, including Uvalde, Kerr, and Kendall counties, over the past week. At least two people have died, and hundreds had to be rescued.
The federal aid will cover 75% of the cost of search and rescue operations, hazard removal, and other relief efforts. FEMA's Roland W. Jackson will coordinate the response, and more counties may be added to the declaration depending on the need.
