President Donald Trump has arrived in Ankara for the NATO summit, where the transatlantic military alliance announced billions in arms deals. The deals are seen as an attempt to appease Trump, who has often criticized European allies for not spending enough on defense.
Trump met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a close ally, and praised Turkey's loyalty to the US. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced a series of military projects, including a deal to replace aging AWACS planes with new surveillance aircraft.

The summit has also sparked debate over jet sales to Turkey, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urging the US not to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey due to its acrimonious relations with Israel. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made a fresh appeal for his country to join the alliance, citing Ukraine's experienced and resilient armed forces.
