Rep. Victoria Spartz (IN-05) formally asked President Donald Trump on August 17, 2026 to approve a Major Disaster Declaration for Indiana after catastrophic flooding ravaged her district.
Spartz cited severe damage in some of the state’s poorest communities, where many families lack the means to recover without federal help. She pointed to the need for swift action, noting that Trump had already moved quickly on an emergency declaration following their recent conversation.

The letter follows on-the-ground assessments by Spartz and local officials, who are coordinating recovery efforts. She emphasized ongoing collaboration with state and federal partners to expedite assistance for affected Hoosiers.
