TikTok is quietly testing peer-to-peer payments inside U.S. direct messages, according to Bloomberg. Hidden code in the latest iPhone app version suggests users could send money with optional notes, mirroring Venmo’s format.
The feature would rely on TikTok Pay, already live for TikTok Shop purchases in Southeast Asia. TikTok told Bloomberg it’s not currently testing the function, signaling an early-stage experiment without a public rollout timeline.

If launched, the tool would compete with Venmo and Zelle in the crowded social payments space. X recently added similar money-sending features, while TikTok has pursued broader financial services, including a lending application in Brazil.

The company did not respond to requests for comment.
