T-Mobile has started notifying customers that it will be retiring many of its oldest plans, including those from the 3G era. Affected customers will be moved to one of the company's current rate plans, with some seeing no change to their monthly bill and others experiencing a modest adjustment.
The move includes legacy Sprint plans, T-Mobile One plans, and Magenta Max plans. While every customer will keep their current benefits, they will also gain improvements in network and service experiences.
The decision has sparked dismay and anger among some customers, who feel that the move contradicts T-Mobile's former "Un-Carrier" image. With many MVNOs running on T-Mobile's network, customers looking to leave for an alternative may not have many options.
