Polymarket has been accused of paying online creators to post deceptive videos about fake bets on its prediction market. An investigation by the Wall Street Journal analyzed 1,100 videos and found that many were filmed on fake versions of the Polymarket website, featuring trades and winnings that were not real.
The creators were reportedly told not to disclose that they had been paid by Polymarket, although some later added a partnership disclosure to their bios. A college student who worked with Polymarket compared the practice to misleading commercials.
Polymarket has stated its commitment to maintaining accurate and transparent markets, and plans to conduct an audit of its promotional content.
