The US Commerce Department has denied Polestar's request for an authorization to continue selling cars in the US, citing national security concerns. As a result, the company will stop selling vehicles in the US starting with the 2027 model year.
Polestar dealerships, including the one owned by Matthew Haiken in New Jersey, have invested millions in selling the cars and are now facing an uncertain future. Haiken expressed frustration with Polestar, stating that the company "dropped the ball" and failed to secure the necessary authorization.
Despite the sales halt, Polestar will continue to support its existing customers in the US through its service network. The company has stated that it will sell its existing stock of vehicles and provide service for customers, but the long-term implications for dealerships and customers remain unclear.
