Midjourney is seeking to compel three Hollywood studios to disclose how they use AI. The studios, including Disney and Universal, sued Midjourney for alleged copyright infringement last year.
The dispute revolves around the documentation the studios must produce during the discovery process. Midjourney argues that training its AI models on images of copyrighted characters is permitted under fair use.
The startup claims that the studios are withholding documents that would reveal their own use of image-generating AI models, which could demonstrate an industry custom of using unlicensed copyrighted content. Midjourney wants the studios to reveal all prompts used in their AI models, as well as the resulting outputs.
