Meta has partnered with Reliance Industries to develop a 168-megawatt AI-enabled data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and cooled using desalinated seawater. This deal marks the latest chapter in a relationship that has steadily deepened since Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms in 2020.
The partnership is part of a larger trend of tech companies investing in AI infrastructure in India, with companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google also making significant investments in the country. India's installed data center capacity has risen from about 375 megawatts in 2020 to around 1.5 gigawatts in 2025, and is expected to grow more than fivefold by the end of the decade.
The data center will support Meta's global infrastructure and AI computing requirements, and will be ready within two years. Reliance will provide end-to-end services for the facility, including design, construction, and ongoing operations.
