Meta is introducing a $19.99 monthly subscription for its smart glasses, limiting the Conversation Focus feature to three hours of use per month without a subscription. The feature, which amplifies the voice of the person you're speaking to in noisy environments, runs on-device and doesn't require an internet connection.
The company claims the rate limit is necessary, but it's unclear why, as the feature doesn't use Meta's servers. Meta has recently laid off 10 percent of its workforce to offset AI investment costs.

A Meta spokesperson stated that the subscription is optional and most people won't hit the monthly limit, but the move has raised concerns about the company's plans for its smart glasses.
