The year 2026 has seen a surge in major cyberattacks, with hackers targeting critical infrastructure, government agencies, and private companies. One of the most alarming breaches involved the Department of Government Efficiency, which uploaded a live copy of the Social Security database to an unsecured server.
Hackers have also targeted water systems and energy grids, with several attacks attributed to Russia and Iran. The ShinyHunters hacking group has breached dozens of companies, including education tech giant Instructure, stealing private data and personal information belonging to over 30 million students and staff.

The supply chain has also been under attack, with open source projects and big tech companies being compromised. The FBI's surveillance system was breached, potentially exposing phone numbers of targets under surveillance by federal agents.
