A recent leak of San Francisco police drone footage has shed light on the city's extensive surveillance capabilities. The footage, which was accidentally livestreamed online, shows police using drones to track suspects, monitor vehicles, and conduct searches. The leak has raised concerns about privacy and the potential for misuse of surveillance technology.
The footage was captured by security researchers who discovered a public web address hosting the drone feeds. The researchers found that the feeds included both color and thermal imaging, as well as location metadata and the names and email addresses of drone pilots.
The San Francisco Police Department has stated that the leak was due to an internal restricted link being improperly obtained and accessed by individuals without authorization. However, the researchers claim that they did not bypass any security or authentication to access the stream.
