A team of astronomers has taken a closer look at WD 1856 b, a Jupiter-size planet orbiting a white dwarf. This planet is the only confirmed case of a planet that survived the death of a Sun-like star.
The planet was an accidental discovery made by the TESS observatory in 2020 while searching for small objects like comets or asteroids.
The James Webb Space Telescope was used to study the planet, and the findings have made an already strange system even stranger. The planet's survival is unclear, as it's unknown how it avoided its star's bloated red giant stage.
