Apple’s iOS 27 beta introduces a redesigned Siri with AI features aimed at making the assistant more useful for routine tasks. The update prioritizes day-to-day utility over flashy innovations, with faster responses and a dedicated app to track interactions. Siri now supports swiping down from the Dynamic Island to activate it, alongside the traditional "Hey Siri" command or side-button press.
The upgrade includes context-aware searches, such as pulling up recently watched shows or specific images, though third-party app compatibility remains limited. Apple also added a new XL widget size for clearer information displays and improved system-wide dictation accuracy. A Siri tab in the Camera app lets users analyze photos, identify objects, or extract details like dates from posters.

Other refinements include generative AI editing tools in Photos, such as "Extend" for image expansion and "Spatial Reframing" for adjusting shot angles. Later this fall, Apple Maps will gain richer Flyover experiences and curated city guides, while Messages and Safari receive RCS 2.7 support and tab grouping, respectively. The public beta is available now, but users should back up data before installing.

The update reflects Apple’s push to close the gap with rivals while maintaining a focus on practicality over gimmicks.
