Kevin Weil, a veteran tech executive, has joined the board of Stoke Space, a Seattle startup building reusable rockets. Weil, who previously worked at Twitter, Meta, and OpenAI, will help the company scale and execute its plans. Stoke Space is developing a reusable rocket called Nova, which could fly this year and compete with SpaceX.
Weil's experience in digital products and platforms may not seem directly relevant to Stoke's mission, but his network and fundraising expertise will be valuable assets. His past work at OpenAI also raises questions about a potential link between the two companies.
Stoke Space has raised $1.34 billion in funding, including a $510 million Series D round, to build its reusable rocket. The company's success could have significant implications for the space industry, particularly in the development of space data centers and military contracts.
