Ford has rehired 350 veteran engineers, including former employees and supplier staff, after artificial intelligence and automated systems failed to deliver the desired quality level.
The company's chief operating officer, Kumar Galhotra, stated that Ford had been relying too heavily on automated quality systems with disappointing results. As a result, the company brought back technical specialists to hunt for failure points before parts reach the plant floor.

The rehired engineers, referred to as 'gray beard' engineers, will train younger staff and reprogram AI tools. This move is expected to lead to $1 billion in reduced costs this year and has already contributed to Ford's top spot in the JD Power Initial Quality Survey.
