Sega’s Crazy Taxi is returning as *Crazy Taxi World Tour*, a modernized reboot blending the franchise’s signature high-speed taxi runs with a larger open world. Creative producer Kenji Kanno, who helped create the original, guided a hands-off demo showcasing vibrant urban environments teeming with pedestrians and traffic. The core gameplay remains unchanged—pick up and drop off passengers while navigating chaotic routes—but the game now offers free-roaming, story missions, and a variety of organic challenges.
The demo highlighted absurd side quests that stay true to the series’ spirit. One mission tasks players with delivering 20 pizzas across a city while maintaining the stack during high-speed jumps, while another involves using the taxi’s momentum to cast a fishing line into the ocean and reel in pufferfish or even a pirate ship’s wheel. These activities serve as disguised tutorials, and an "off the clock" option lets players exit them seamlessly to continue exploring. Time-attack challenges, however, were notably brief.
The soundtrack, a hallmark of the original, is getting a 1999-inspired refresh with high-profile artists, including The Offspring’s *All I Want* featured in the demo. Sega confirmed a 2027 launch window but hasn’t set a concrete release date yet.
