Comcast has launched Xfinity Shield, a home security platform that integrates Wi-Fi motion detection and cybersecurity tools into a single app. The service is available at no extra cost to Xfinity Internet customers through a feature called Wi-Fi Shield, which includes Wi-Fi Motion.
Wi-Fi Motion uses the Xfinity Gateway to detect movement by analyzing changes in radio frequency signals between the router and connected devices. It sends real-time alerts via the Xfinity app when unexpected activity is detected, without recording video or identifying individuals. The platform also includes cybersecurity protections against malware and phishing, alongside Family Settings for managing screen time and device limits across household profiles.
For users seeking more advanced features, Shield Select adds an indoor camera, door or window sensors, cloud video storage, and 24/7 emergency response for $15 per month. It also enables AI-powered identification of people, pets, packages, and vehicles on compatible cameras. Comcast plans to expand Xfinity Shield with additional features in 2027.
