Johann Zarco marked his MotoGP return with a ninth-place Sprint finish at Aragon, securing his first Sprint point since Catalunya. The LCR Honda rider called the result a "great sprint" and emphasized the weekend’s progress despite a double long-lap penalty for his earlier accident. "Getting a point means the weekend already feels beneficial," Zarco said, noting the result as a positive step after over 100 days sidelined by knee ligament injuries.
The 2026 Aragon Sprint also served as Zarco’s first race start since the front ride-height device ban and wider grid spacing changes. He described his start as "pretty good" but admitted caution in early braking due to track conditions. Zarco overtook Ducati’s Pecco Bagnaia early on, later losing positions to Fermin Aldeguer and Raul Fernandez as tire temperatures rose. Despite the setback, he praised his adaptability without the ride-height device and his physical readiness for the intense Sprint format.
Zarco downplayed the Sunday penalty, suggesting it might even help manage tire pressure. "Maybe it's an opportunity to keep my front tyre cooler," he said, while Diogo Moreira finished as the top Honda rider in seventh. With his pace looking strong, Zarco left the door open for further points in the main race.
