Yamaha has named 23-year-old Spanish rider Izan Guevara as its MotoGP signing for 2027, filling the seat at Pramac Racing vacated by Jack Miller. The move marks a significant shift for Guevara, who has spent recent years bouncing between Moto2 and Moto3 with mixed results.
Guevara’s rise through the ranks was meteoric in Moto3, where he dominated the European Talent Cup and claimed the 2022 title after a three-way battle with Pedro Acosta and Xavi Artigas. His reputation grew further under Aspar’s guidance, but a transition to Moto2 in 2023 stalled amid injury and performance struggles. A 2025 move to Pramac’s Moto2 squad under Gino Borsoi—a familiar figure from his Aspar days—helped revive his form, culminating in a late-season victory and a title push this year.
Yamaha’s decision reflects confidence in Guevara’s potential, with reports suggesting a MotoGP clause was embedded in his Pramac contract. The 2027 MotoGP grid will feature 850cc bikes and Pirelli tyres, narrowing the gap to Moto2 machinery—a change that could benefit Guevara’s adaptation. With the premier class’s pecking order still uncertain, his debut will be one of the season’s most intriguing storylines.
