Red Bull Racing team principal Laurent Mekies has backed Max Verstappen’s frustration after the Dutch driver crashed out of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Verstappen spun into the gravel at Stowe Corner on lap 46, ending his race while running third. This followed a similar incident in Austria just a week earlier, both linked to rear wing failures after Straight Mode zones.
Verstappen called the failures dangerous, telling team radio and in post-race remarks that losing downforce in high-speed corners left him with no control. Mekies acknowledged the team’s repeated failures to prevent the issue, calling the outcome "extremely unpleasant" for both driver and team. Red Bull had already identified the Austria problem but faced a different failure mode in the UK, prompting a full review of the rear wing system.

The RB22’s unconventional "Macarena" rear wing, used since Miami, is now under scrutiny. Mekies refused to rule out design changes but stressed the priority is eliminating the risk entirely. Verstappen had also pushed to change the car’s setup after qualifying, though Red Bull opted to race with the flawed balance to avoid a pit-lane start.

Mekies confirmed the team will "leave no stone unturned" in addressing the recurring issue, while Verstappen’s outburst underscores the urgency of finding a solution before the next race.
