MotoGP rookie Brian Uriarte has won two races in his debut season, but his career almost took a different path after a single conversation when he was 10. A friend of his father advised that circuit racing offered better prospects than motocross, steering Uriarte toward asphalt tracks despite his early success in dirt riding. Uriarte, who grew up in Cantabria’s sand-based motocross scene, had competed against future MX2 stars before switching disciplines.
The 18-year-old now sits fourth in the Moto3 standings after a crash at Silverstone, dropping from second place. His first win came at Mugello, where he described the finish as “unbelievable,” while a second victory at Sachsenring capped a strong first half of the season. Uriarte credits his team’s improved morale and consistency for his progress, though he admits adapting to new tracks remains a challenge.
Uriarte’s path mirrors recent Moto3 rookies like Max Quiles, who dominated the class in 2026. Both honed their skills in the JuniorGP series, which Uriarte calls a “perfect school” for world championship preparation. He studies old races and videogames to shorten his learning curve on unfamiliar circuits, though he acknowledges the steep competition among rookies.
