Guenther Steiner has made his first MotoGP signing as Tech3 team principal, securing Luca Marini on a contract for 2027.
The move ends Tech3’s long-standing reliance on KTM-contracted riders, shifting the squad toward riders under its own control. Marini was not initially a priority for KTM’s satellite program but emerged as Steiner’s clear preference, aligning with the team principal’s history of favoring continuity and reliability over high-risk gambles.
Steiner’s MotoGP approach diverges from his F1 tenure at Haas, where he avoided rookie signings. Tech3’s established status allowed him to target a rookie for the second seat, with Senna Agius the early favorite. However, Marini’s track record—consistent points finishes, minimal equipment damage, and a reputation for engineering insight—secured the ride despite modest qualifying performances compared to teammate Joan Mir.
The signing follows a turbulent period for Tech3, marked by rider conflicts and underperformance. Marini’s pragmatic style offers stability, though he is unlikely to deliver headline-grabbing results.
