Carlos Sainz has accepted full blame for the contact that forced Williams teammate Alex Albon to retire from the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The Spaniard locked up into Turn 1 on older hard tyres, triggering a front-end slide that dragged Albon off track with irreparable damage.
The incident came after Albon had fought his way into top-10 contention, only for an early pit call to leave him stuck behind seven cars. Both drivers admitted Williams lacked the pace to score points, with Audi and Aston Martin rivals finishing ahead. Sainz apologized for the collision, calling it “the last thing you want to do” with a teammate.
Albon downplayed the clash, noting it was unfortunate but not a deliberate clash. He instead focused on strategy errors, including an early stop that cost track position. The team will review the race, but both drivers emphasized the need to improve competitiveness for future rounds.
