MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi expressed surprise at Marco Bezzecchi's ban from the Czech Grand Prix. Bezzecchi was suspended after striking a marshal following a crash in the sprint on Saturday. Rossi stated he didn't expect the penalty, saying 'I think that Marco did a mistake, but, sincerely, I didn’t expect that he couldn’t race.'
The incident occurred when Bezzecchi's bike began revving as trackside workers lifted it, and he twice hit a marshal. The marshal, Ladislav, later explained that the situation was a 'pure accident' and that he was 'shocked' in the moment.

Aprilia CEO Massimo Rivola also shared Rossi's surprise, calling the ban 'disproportionate'. Bezzecchi will sit out Sunday's grand prix, with Aprilia accepting the penalty after appealing it on Saturday night.
